You see what I mean? Calling Point Lobos a "bunny site" is asinine. It really is.

-Chris

I've dove Lobos, some of it could be considered a real bunny site. Other places in the park ( harder to get to thankfully) could get you killed.

So its a killer bunny...kinda like the thing in Monty Pythons The Holy Grail.

We are no longer the knights that say Knee...

For me to have the turn-it-on issue I would have had to have multiple sequence failures:
1) Didn't do the final breathe-the-reg-while-watching-SPG check prior to entry.
2) Didn't inflate my BC prior to entry, so that I'm starting positive.
3) Didn't have my pony, second air source.

Let me give another example - one that actually happened here.

Guy in a tiny boat suiting up to dive. Larger boat passes by, and he gets tossed over the side by the wake of the larger boat after losing his balance.

He wasn't planning to enter the water yet, so the drysuit and wing weren't inflated. The air wasn't on. Steel tank. He sank. He drowned.

It would've been useful to reach that valve.

Addendum: This is what I get for responding to a post on page 4 of an 8 page thread...I'm discussing a topic the thread has moved passed, killed, buried, and dug up again for fertilizer. Oh well, time for bed. :zahn:

So I just need to add a Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch to my rig and I should be able to dive at Lobos? Would that be DIR?

Yeah, only stroke knights say "ni."

DIR knights always say, "Ecky- ecky- ecky- ecky- pikang- zoop- boing- goodem- zoo- owli- zhiv." - in unison, of course :D

Don Burke:
One of the harsh truths of this site is that hitting the off switch on the blender does not immediately stop the blades.

I'll REALLY have to remember this one...

... :zahn:
Excellent example, thanks.
(For me, the pony's mounted before the BC goes on, and turned on, with the pony valve in an easy to reach location, so that really would be my immediate "oh heck" air source, but your example points to the need to be able to reach some air source. Fortunately, that means I do have one source readily reachable, then it's drop weights which would make me go positive.)

1. Sure everyone forgets at least once, but I normally don't don my tank with the air off.
2. Dropping just weights would probably have been enough bouyancy wearing a drysuit. Should not have been so negative even with steel doubles. Still not so negative to kick against.
3. Ditch rig if #2 doesn't work
4. Both 2 and 3 should be tried before trying to turn air on. Might have found inflators not connected either. Gear can be replaced, ya know.

it be easier to just reach back and turn the valve on?

With proper technique and training, given the facts, it would have been easier to turn air on.
