It must be that evil Kim getting all raucous :)
(It is kind of neat how in a monster thread you can actually get a decent sidebar discussion going, the rationale for doing things. I still haven't bought in on being able to turn my valve on and off as being a "must", for recreational applications, though agree that it is a "good".)

I started this thread. I signed off legit and got slammed a bunch of times. I did learn a lot from every post. I will not be mister critical if I see some divers doing a work up on a "bunny site". I will also be aware that there are many ways of "Doing it right". After 34+ yrs of diving there is alway more to learn. Divers have great passion for their sport and it is evident here.

**final warning **

Calling each other names, whether it be "Stroke," "meathead," "jackass," "jerk" or any other name is prohibited. Continuing to do so will result in posting privileges being suspended.

Is it Ok if you add " Not that there is anything wrong with that."?

When I saw all that "tech gear" I thought it was overkill for the site and the conditions.

No offense but you're really showing how little you know about Lobos and how judgmental you are. Within the confines of the park you can do a serious tech dive (condition permitting) any time. Sites like "Montana" and "Deep E3" are VERY serious tech dive sites that more than warrant all the gear you say you saw. To sorta infer that all the gear they had was over kill is pure stupidity.

I have to say it again, I don't know of a single Lobos tech diving regular (DIR or not) that exhibits the kind of conduct you are describing. I (along with others) have to wonder what your motive was when you opened this thread.

You see what I mean? Calling Point Lobos a "bunny site" is asinine. It really is.

That's one way of looking at it and it might make sense for some. If I have a reg free flow, though, I'll switch to another source and shut it down in the hopes it'll thaw (if it's due to freezing). At 90 ft, I likely already have that other source on my back in the form of doubles or an h-valve but if not and I need to ascend from any depth on my own gas from any depth, I'll feather the valve before rushing my ascent. Which is worse, dcs or embolism? I don't want either one, thanks anyway. From shallow depths with plenty of gas left, I'll just breath the free flow because I have plenty to get up and why bother? I'll still reach back and shut it down at the surface though. From deeper, like the 90 ft we're talking about? I'll use the valve. I'm not adding any risk because I can do it easily. Complex? Says who?

I think the embolism risk / complexity comment is in reference to this quote:

"In a free flow situation you can get air through the flow, turn it off, ascend a bit blowing your bubbles to keep your air passage open, turn it on and repeat."

Hey, I was out there that week, Thursday. I even met Chris and some of his buddies, all were very nice. We (my buddies and I) had a fantastic dive, 53', 53 degrees F, for 57 minutes. So let's not talk rec or dir, they can still dive the same places and still enjoy the dive. As long as everybody is safe, enjoys themselves, what's the beef ?
Point Lobos was fantastic, that day, and that week, nothing will ruin that for me.

One of the harsh truths of this site is that hitting the off switch on the blender does not immediately stop the blades.
That's probably true on many sites. As a couple of Mods have stepped into this one already though, I would advise caution. I doubt if anyone will see another warning.

Well, You seem to be the expert Chris. I have only been diving Pt. Lobos about 30 times, never @ the sites you have been on. I have always liked diving there, nice entry, good place to relax after diving etc.
