This thread is completely useless. Dan had the best advice given so far when he said "if you don't like it, train with someone else". Someone else had good intentions pointing you to the DAN articles and other sources about smoking and diving not being a good choice, but let's face it, none of us are idiots. We all know smoking is as stupid as deep air diving and only results in the death of the smoker. There is not one single positive thing anyone can say about smoking...period. So why argue about it?

It's just like a non-smoking restaurant. You don't like it, you go somewhere else.

I think O-ring is right. This thread has become useless. What Kim did not understand in my oppinion was that GUE was a private company with their own rules. I believe he now understands that.

Atleast he posted his Whine in the correct section...he is free to whine all he wants and is entitled to his opinion. If he really wants the GUE training, he can stop smoking for the class, they will not know.

BTW, O-ring is usually right.

:10:

If you've been a smoker longer than 10 years, I highly doubt that you would be able to pass GUE's swim test... 50ft under water on a breath hold and 300 yards in 15 minutes.

Is that seriously their swim test????????

That sounds about right, although it seems like they are a lot farther than that! :)

Yup. Fundies and rec-triox.
For tech 1 is goes to 60ft uw and 300 yards in 12 minutes.
Tech 2 and the RB classes go to 400 yards in 12.
I think the cave classes are the same, but may extend the uw swim.

For comparison, PADI has an untimed 200 yard surface swim and, IIRC, 10 minute tread/float.

Actually, I can't think of a religion that does condone it. Most ignore it, but technically it is a sin in all the religions I have ever been exposed to. That includes, Jewish, Catholic, Mormon, Budhist, Islam, various forms of Christianity, Hindu.

Yes, I know what you mean, but the key word is prohibit.

If a religion prohibits sinners, all people are disqualified, and there are zero members of that religion.

You are right and diving is a hobby, at least for me, therefore GUE will not get any of my hard earned $$. I don't believe anyone or any company has the right to "prohibit" me from learning to perform my hobby better and easier for any reason.

HEY!!! I had to go look it up.
What you said is correct according to the standards on the website.
For my Tech1 we did the 400 yds in <12 min, then 60' breathhold - the instructor wouldn't let us push off the wall - had to start from a standing position.
