KaylinQ,

Good pics, those newfoundlands are great water dogs. It's got to be difficult to get a dog into scuba outfit. He must have been weighted to sink like that.

Yes we've been wondering up the equipment set up actually here also...lol. We've got one dog that would probabl be good at it. Noticed also that the Scuba Dog still has a leash on also! Not sure if anyone noticed that....

Denali is my water loving fun dog. The purple in front of us is his elephant pool *edit which I cropped out, doh!*.

He LOVES the water and we can't keep him out of it. Last spring we took him to a whitewater kayak festival and had to keep him on a very short leash because he wanted to go into the waves with the boats. He has his own lifejacket to keep his chest up when he is swimming in fast flowing rivers.

Nurseshark took him to the beach last week and he ended up getting "swimmers tail" for the first time...basically he strained the muscles around his tail from using it like a rudder while swimming. I get home from work and he can't wag his tail...it was a little funny to see him keep staring at his but as if to say "what's up with this thing". 36 hours later he's back to normal. Check out Nursesharks profile picture to see Denali at 4 weeks old (mislabeled as 8 weeks).

He would love to come diving with us but alas, he hates being mounted like a stage bottle;)

I guess O-ring can't vote in this poll cuz there's no "clip it off like a stage" option.

I'm personally for leaving the dog at home. I don't think a dog would enjoy most of our trips.

Well,
My dogs don't dive yet, but there's still hope - they're less than a year old.

Here's a pic of them in the water when they were only a few months old.

I've recently started taking my dog along. He's small and has lots of room to move around in the van while he waits for us. He gets to walk around and hang out while we gear up and during surface intervals. I think it's better than if he stayed home alone all day. I don't know what I'll do in the summer when it's too hot to leave a dog in the car... Look for shade, I guess... No way could I leave him unsupervised on the beach! He'd be in the water after us for sure, and he'd cause a huge fuss! I think he's too old to learn a new trick like diving - even if I could rig the gear. :)

My full size (18lb) dachshund stays onboard while we are getting wet. It gives us a since of security knowing that he is on duty. He has his own life jacket and favorite shaded spot. Hell has no fury like a dachshund protecting his boat.

I don't currently have a dog, but would ask those who do, to leave him home or with someone, not bring him along. I can't believe the places people take their dogs. We went to a local farmers market Saturday morning, stocked up the freezer with meat. We couldn't believe it when one couple made their way through the crowd in front of the meat counters with a black Lab on a leash. I wonder if they take him to the grocery store too? Many dog owners seem to think that the "No Dogs Allowed" signs on public beaches, etc, don't apply to them because their dog is so well behaved. My 14 yo stepson has 2 large scars about 1/2" below his eye from one of those "he's always well behaved, I don't know what happened" dogs, who jumped up to greet him and raked 2 claws across his face.
Every year before the local fireworks displays, they have numerous announcements asking people to leave their dogs at home, every year people show up with their dogs. A couple of years back they started refusing admission at the gates to anyone with a dog, several people then sneaked in over the fence, with their dog. Inevitably, when the bangs start, one or more terrified dogs break loose and runs, with the owner(s) racing along behind trying to catch them.

I do like dogs, have had several over the years. With our current lifestyle, work, kids in school, weekends in the summer at the boat, we've concluded it would not be fair to the dog, as we would not be able to give it the time and attention it deserves.

[/rant off]

If I've gone off topic, my apologies, but this is one of those things that really gets to me.

People shouldn't bring dogs where they are not allowed. Can't argue with that. If they are allowed though, you can't complain if they're there.

As for dog attacks, the MAJORITY are caused by ignorance on the part of the person who was bitten. Frequently its kids that approach someone's dog without asking, or pester or tease it. Then when they get bitten, its the dogs fault. All these anti-dog people then get on their high horse are say how dangerous dogs are. Parents who properly teach their kids about dogs don't have this happen to them.
