If you are taking this with another class you are getting robbed. I paid 100.00 total including books. Which shop are you talking to? Alpine Scuba or High Plains? The most I have ever seen it is $150.

There is plenty of competition around here especially further south to North Denver area. Keep in mind Greely also has shops.

I paid $75 for my Nitrox class (SSI) and $45 for the book. I guess I am very lucky to have a LDS owner who loves people as much as he loves diving.

One of the LDS' here charges $225 & that includes books & tables & there's an additional charge for the boat if you don't do a beach dive.

Divin'Hoosier:
I'm taking EAN in June. It's $145 (instruction and book) and I'm doing it in parallel with my AOW, so I don't have to pay for additional dives.

Your LDS doesn't have a nitrox fill. I am wondering where they can get the nitrox fill from.;)

As mentioned bundling and knowing what you get seems to be the key.

If it includes:
A 2 tank boat trip.
Rental of the cylinders & the nitrox fills
An actual in person lecture
A hands on gas checking lab repeated at the dive site
The $189 dosen't sound too bad though the $75 for "books" sounds very steep.

Some of the most affordable deals come when you combine things loke using nitrox while doing the AOW deep dives orwhn at a dive resort or on a liveaboard where the diving is already being provided, nitrox fills are SOP and they may have numerous students to teach sumultaneously.

Sounds like your options locally are limited. Do you have local access/use of nitrox? Since there is no skill building or in water pracice to using nitrox beyond the appropriate depth/time management perhaps you can get a better deal at the time/location of need.

Primdrumma:
I've been looking into taking a Nitrox class for some time now. Considering my location there are not too many choices I have here. The class I am looking at (PADI) runs $189.95 plus an additional $74.95 for the books. Wait a tick...I've seen others post their entire Nitrox cert was only $150, what gives. I guess this is what you get with little competition?

I lived in Ft Collins for a year and Alpine's prices were very high for everything. They are not the only shop in town though. High Plains Scuba does it for $135 + books. They are a NAUI shop, but that shouldn't make a difference. Also, PADI offers an online course "DISCOVER Enriched Air NITROX Online" for $30. Take a look. You may get all the materials you need to complete the full EANX class that way.

My only other suggestion would be to contact a shop in Colorado Springs like Divers Reef and see if you can do all the bookwork and DVD stuff on your own, and then catch up with them when they head to Homestad Crater to do the dives and take the test.
