Sorry to be a pain. But I need a definite answer on whether or not the Sherwood Blizzard has the moisture retention fins like the Sherwood Oasis does.

I posted the same question on another board and received conflicting answers. My LDS insisted the Blizzard is the same red as the Oasis except the Blizzard has extra heat sinks to prevent freezing.

Anyone with the answer?

I thought that we already killed this. The bilzzard has everything that the oasis has except that it has the additional heat sink fins. what we be so hard as to call your lds of for heavens sake take a look at one in any shop by peeking in the second stage...

Thx Katz. The link was excellent.

rescue - as I said, I keep finding conflicting info on different threads and boards. Just trying to get an accurate answer.

Yes, I understand that you may be finding conflicting voews on the board, but also Isaid just go into your LDS and take a look at both of them. If there are fins in the second stage, there is a moisture rentention. If there are ridges on the outside of the second stage there is a heat sink. Simple answer.

From what I understand and the tech I got my info from, the blizzard is essentially the oasis with a grey cover on the second stage.

The link Katz provided pretty much explains that.

Yes... and the fins are teflon plated to help stop freeze up... Really the fins do almost nothing to help with the dry mouth thing though.... The only thing I've found that really works is the Apollo Bio Filter. That's a sponge that you soak in water and it raises the humidity of the air you're breathing from .1% to 60% throughout the dive.

Here's the story on the Bio Filter

I have to disagree. The moisture that condenses on the fins definitely gets returned to you when you inhale. I never had cotton mouth with my Blizzard.

Hmmm... I never really found them to be very effective. It's just like the guys who want all metal second stages... and I have those - so you can get condensation on the exhale. If the whole second stage is metal, you're increasing the surface area for condensation much more than the 2, 1 inch fins...

But then again... I know some people who don't even get cotton mouth when diving at all... with nothing! So it appears it's a very individual thing on how much it bothers you, and how much "cure" is needed to take care of it. With Joe - partner in crime - he gets heart burn real bad when diving from the drying of his throat.. and for him the oaisis did nothing.... but one day he swipped my reg, and with the bio filter on - he was fine. You can surface after diving for 15 minutes, and hold it up and hit the purge button and still see a water vapor mist coming out of the reg.

If any of you guys are in the area and want to try it, I'll be more than happy to let you borrow one of mine to toss on a reg and you can try it out in our pool - or take the thing out for a weekend of diving. It's a pretty dramatic difference. But then after trying it... you've got to come back to this thread and post your thoughts...
