There is considerable loose banter concerning scientific topics on SB. I attempt to reference my statements when apppropriate, fully realizing that that my arguments will be dismissed by many who invoke a different standard.

Being a scientist and physician is often a major obstacle for my active participation on SB, all I can do is try.

I guess in the end, CatFishBob has it right. Does nitox make you feel better? "If you think it does, then it does."

That's the point of taking a nitrox class.

I understand that, This thread was a split from another and i was stating that comment due to the other thread where people where talking about divers diving nitrox with no certification or training.

Its clearly all comes down to how its used.

1) Are you using nitrox for the extended ranges, meaning you are still diving to with in the NDL of the mix then sure you may not feel better your still loaded with nitrogen coming out of the water.

2) Are you like me and will dive a mix but with in AIR NDL. Then yes you are going to come out feeling better, your no wheres near as nitrogen loaded coming out how could you not feel that much better?

I agree when i play a dive around a mix and maximize my bottom on that mix then no i don't feel all that much better. However when i do simple dives based on Air tables ( due to my buddies ) but dive it on a enriched mix then yes i come out that much better, And it is far from a Placebo effect.

Yes. It would have been a better discussion if the original post asked whether reducing your nitrogen load makes you feel better. I don't think anybody here thinks nitrox has any benefit beyond lowering your nitrogen absorption for a given depth and time.

If diving nitrox doesn't make you feel better, before you gear up, roll the tank around on the ground or shake it for five minutes to make sure everything is adequately mixed.
Sorry....just couldn't resist. ;)

As Ive said before wether i dive nitrox with air profiles or air on the same profile (and site) doesnt matter, I feel zero difference. And that applies to 6-7 days of 3 dives a day as well..

Thanks.

This was discuseed earlier in the thread, didn't seem to gain much traction though may be the crux of the matter.

I dive nitrox to the limit to maximally increase my dive time and find no difference in fatigue between air and nitrox. Thal dives nitrox with air tables and feels less fatigued when diving nitrox instead of air. There you go then.

I used to notice significant differences in how I felt during and after dive vacations.

During some vacations I did 2-3 dives per day was exhausted and went to bed early every night (7-10 days of diving).

Other dive vacations I did 4-5 dives per day and felt wonderful and rested the entire time (7-10 days of diving).

It wasn't until 2 years later, looking through my log books, that I realized that I was exhausted when I used air during an entire trip, and I felt wonderful when I used Nitrox during an entire trip.

So what's the word for "placebo effect" when you didn't even think there supposed to be a difference?

If studies have not shown a difference between air and Nitrox in this regard, then the answer is simply that no one has yet designed a proper study to investigate this phenonemon.

If I don't feel exhausted after a dive trip, it simply means I didn't dive enough ...
