Dear all,

Please consider this thread closed by the OP - the article is redundant.

Please note: I am not trying to start an LP war. I have some genuine questions. I have tried several SB searches and found many opinions, but little in the way of substantive facts - perhaps this reflects upon my poor search skills.

I have tried to answer the following questions: (1) Does Aqualung sell directly to Leisure Pro; (2) Is my Aqualung regulator, purchased from LP, "gray-market;" and (3) Is there some nefarious computer list of regulator serial numbers, maintained by Aqualung, that will invalidate my regulator warranty?

For reference, Aqualung's website (see Aqua Lung - Professional Diving Equipment) states:

Retailers that offer to sell and ship Aqua Lung or affiliate branded life support products by mail in response to mail, telephone, or Internet orders ARE NOT AUTHORIZED AQUA LUNG AMERICA DEALERS. ... If you purchase Aqua Lung or affiliate branded life support products by mail, telephone order, or electronically, you are purchasing from a non-authorized dealer and your products will not be covered by Aqua Lung America warranties. ... Unauthorized retailers offering Aqua Lung Scuba products acquire those products through unknown sources.

Comments, anyone?

Have you contacted Aqua Lung?

When you got to Aqualungs website, punch in Leasurepros Zip they do not pop up as one of the 14 dealers for the area. So i would assume that in fact you bought a product that is not covered by Aqualung.

No, I have not. I assume that, if I call them, they will tell me that their website is correct. This does not mean, however, that they (or any other company) is not saying one thing while doing something else.

I suppose that I'd like to hear from LP...

Awnsers to the question.

Thanks, Michael_Lambert.

I suppose that I'd be curious to find out where LP gets their Aqualung regulators, in such quantities and at such prices... :)

1) They probably use a friendly intermediate company to keep things legal and don't have to outright lie to their dealers.
2) Clearly Gray Market - AQ is very, very clear about this, so is LP.
3) Only authorized dealers can properly register serial numbers, again AQ is up front about this and they are not stupid people. You serial number will show you did not purchased from an AQ dealer.

Personally I don't like their position, but I am happy with the replacement warranty offered by LP. But to each his own. AQ and LP are both clear in their positions and are not trying to deceive anyone.
