Any US citizen ever buy gear (eg SP reg) in any of the ABCs? Did you get the same warranty coverage as if purchased in the US?

just saw another thread here where the op asked SP directly and they said as long as you didn't have a foreign authorized seller ship it to you in the US then you're still covered.

How would they know if you walked in or had it shipped? I can see it now, "Sorry, we won't repair your reg unless you send us a copy of your passport proving you actually went to xxxxxxx to buy it."

As long as you are the original purchaser from an authorized store you are covered. Doesn't matter where you buy it.

For a ScubaPro regulator, it will be under warranty for parts failures and recalls, but the parts for life program will not apply (not a warranty) as this is a program that only covers regulators imported into the US by ScubaPro USA.

I know of a few shops that will not service foreign purchased regs, but they are only scaring off customers. The shops I have worked for will service the regulator with the customer paying for the parts if they are not covered by the manufacturer. We ensure that we are only applying the manufacturers rules fairly as everyone who drops off a reg for service is a customer we want to keep - If we are in doubt about coverage we call the manufacturer.

Hope this helps,

Keith

All my Scubapro regs are pre-owned models. All recall issues (like the MK20 nut cracking stuff a few years back) were covered by Scubapro when I had the reg serviced (although, I had to educate the shop about the issue - and I have not returned to that shop - 6 weeks to get the reg back - literally, the night before we flew out on our next dive trip to get it back!).

However, there are no free parts for life or warranty issues that apply to me since I'm not the original owner on these regs.

Thanks for all the replies.

And I assume that the converse also applies; US-bought SP regs from authorized dlrs do not get the free parts from a non-US-SP-authorized dlr if the reg is serviced outside of the US...
