Water was 80 as of the 17th and the jellies weren't any better by the 17th. That being said, apparently most of them were harmless as no one else was complaining much. Think we had a snorkel kid that on one day complained a bit.

I was there all last week. My dive computer says the water temp was consistently 81 degrees. I don't ever wear a wetsuit while I'm there, but I'm from Chicago and tend to always be warm. The only time I get cold is when the dive goes over 90 minutes and I'm really inactive because of the current. There were a lot of jellyfish last week, but I really didn't get stung even though we surfaced in the middle of them a couple of times.

70F is COLD water! You'll never encounter that in Cozumel.

I never wear a thermal suit, always wear a lycra skin. Occasionally I think I should have worn a 3mm suit. My wife always wears a 3mm full suit and in the winter adds a hooded vest. My son always wears a 3mm suit.

The longer you stay submerged, the colder you'll feel. Those 100-minute dives at shallower sites start getting pretty chilly.

In the winter, especially in the rain, I'm often grateful for a dive parka on the boat when it's windy or we're moving fast.

Got a jelly in my face a few days ago. Kind of goopy, but I didn't felt stung at all.

I wear surf shorts and 3mm jacket year round in Coz. The water has been warmer lately so I could not use the 3mm jacket but wear it to use the same weight. In that case, a nylon t-shirt. Dives are generally 60+ minutes.

My wife in warmer Coz water will always wear a 3mm full wetsuit and in colder water, use a 3 mm shorty over the top of the 3mm full wetsuit.

Seems some jelly activity lately. Unusual. We generally don't have that issue until March/April. Maybe the warmer water lately?

Its 80 F plus or minus a degree right now. In our party, its running between a full 5 mm without hood and a dive skin. Some of the people with 3mms or dive skins became cold after 2 dives. The ones that only wore skins and did not get cold had their own insulation. After having worn a full 3mm myself in December and January and being slightly uncomfortable, I wore a 5mm on this trip and was able to do 4 dives a day and was quite comfortable.

I think a good compromise is a 3mm full with a 5 mm hood. More travel compact, lighter, and less weight.

We saw jellyfish on maybe one third of the dives. On one dive we had to swim out of them to surface.

Bioprene is what that natural insulation is called!

I tend to chill easily, but I always use a 3mm shorty because I feel less constricted. I sometimes wear a sleeveless vest under the shorty. Either way I seldom feel chilly, even in the winter. I do tend to develop a rash on exposed areas, but I do like the freedom of movement.

As others have said it very much is up to what you personally are comfortable with.

I have done some dives in just a rash guard/Lycra and I was entirely comfortable and my buddy in a drysuit called the dive for it being too cold (low 50s) or actually turned blue in a 5mm w/ hood.

If I were you, I would plan on bringing a 3mm full, and if you chill easy look at a lavacore/sharkskin vest.

I totally forgot to post while I was in COZ - from January 5 - 12.

The water temperature was between 28 and 32C (82 and 87F) and there were LOTS of water-demons (jellyfish).

I wore a 3mm the entire time (20 dives) and was all right with it. Obviously diving naked must be way better but I never tried that and recommend you guys don't do it either. Some people may raise their eyebrows.

For 20 or so years I dove in a bathing suit and a T shirt. It was fine. Now I use a 3 mil shorty,no hat, no gloves I have more insulation than most. If you have low body fat () then a 3 mil shorty may be more comfortable for you. I usually do a two tank morning dive and sometimes a night dive. If you dive more than that then you may feel a little cold without a wet suit after a day or two. Easy solution is to bring it and wear it only if you need it.
