With space and weight restrictions getting tougher, gear bag space becomes more valuable. Do you disconnect your 2nd stage, octos and console/gauges from the first stage for travel? It would insure a safer trip for the gear as it could be packed better but is it worth the hassle?

Dave

Too much hassle. I just wrap them up in a wetsuit and check them.

I wrap 'em in a wetsuit and carry them on.

I nest them in our carry-ons. They go in on top of a few soft items while there is still plenty of space to allow for smooth hose routings. The rest then pack sin around them. We've added data-links to our HP hoses so they will probably come off now.

I just carry my regs on. As is.

Yes. I pack 3 rigs in a hard sided brief case for carry-on. To make them fit I remove the HP hose and 1 LP hose from each so they will lay flat. It will also fit a 4th 1st & 2nd only.

In the roll-on, padded with clothes.

I was removing the compass, as it's filled with liquid, but stopped bothering.

I also use the wetsuit as protection, or sometimes enclose them in the BCD for protection. And then CHECK them.

Yes, I sometimes put them inside the BC as well Charlie.

for normal travel i will leave them in the regulator bag that comes in the Akona deluxe backpack. i can fit a set of double regulators in it with a little manipulation
