I just bought a new cylinder, AL40 that will be used for a deco bottle when I take my Advanced Nitrox/Deco procedures class. It came with the new Genesis convertible valve, which is a nice looking piece, and seems to have good build quality, but it is by far the fastest and most violently opening valve I've ever come across, and this concerns me for use on a high O2 deco bottle. Does anyone know if valves will "break in" over time, or is this going to be a harsh opening valve for good?

Jim

Genesis valves are usually crap.
Get yourself a nice Thermo pro-valve, which open a bit slower. :)

I had been thinking of this for a bit now. Maybe just keep this for an argon or dedicated air tank. What is the general consensus on the stand alone OMS convertible valve? OMS is pretty common around here, and I know several shops that stock that valve, so it's an easy pick up for me.

I use Thermo valves when possible.

Thermo valves for the win. :D
Genesis valves belong in the trash.
