Really not sure if this is the best place for this, but I figure it'll get the most exposure here...

I've gotten Padi Diving Society membership for a few years as a recurring birthday present. After a couple of months, I get what seems like more renewal notices than magazines. The frequency is annoying and a waste of paper and postage costs. Last month, I officially became a padi member, which includes Diving Society membership, so now I'm wondering... Am I going to be getting twice as many membership renewals until my birthday subscription runs out or will I eventually stop getting the notices?

Post Another Damn Invoice

I've asked this before-- Why do they send out renewal notices at all to PADI members? It costs them postage--and probably a lot of it. Not good for a business.

Ask them, customerservice@ padi.com

It's not just PADI, it's so many magazines/charities/organizations. I just toss them all in a pile and go through them maybe once or twice a year. I start by dealing them into stacks of dups like a deck of cards. I find the piles from "environmental" organizations rather ironic.

I still get them several times per year. I've only been certified for about 2 1/2 years but I get them a lot more often than just my birthday. They all go directly to the recycle bin.

Right. I would imagine PADI is far from being the only company that has figured out that it is still more profitable to send out all these notices than not to. Despite the mailing costs. Interesting that the environment is such a popular issue today, yet I guess profit still is more popular to some.

Why on earth would anyone join a meaningless shell organization that is in reality nothing more than a subscription to a corporate advertising magazine? I can't imagine paying for this kind of shallow intrusive annoyance, especially one that pretends to give unsuspecting new divers some sort of insider status. Once any organization of scammers gets your name on their sucker list the junk will continue to clog your mail. You might request the post ofice to return the unsolicited items at the sender's expense.

As a PADI member, I first had a bit of trouble receiving the magazine. I only want it because it is included with membership. It is mostly useless to me since it's 90% dive travel to places that don't allow shell collecting (which is almost every tropical place anyway). And a little bit on equipment. But I still want it because it's "free".
