I have stayed at the Iberostar several times when my non-diving family comes along. This time we are staying next door at the Grand.

As someone who runs a business, NO ONE (but the bankers, CPA, and IRS) gets to look at the financials. It is not anyone's business but ours.

Christi, I don't blame you a bit for your decision.

Below is an email and response from Iberostar.

Hello,

I have stayed at your hotel three times in the last
three years. I use a dive operation that has now
informed me that they will not pick up at your pier
due to problems with dealing with your staff. I was
going to book a trip for May to stay at the Iberostar,
but now I am concerned that the dive operations that I
would like to use will not pick up at your facility.
I am writing to see if there has been problems rather
than take the work of the dive operation.

Dear Duane,
Thank you for writing to Iberostar Cozumel.
All outside dive operators, who wish to use our pier, must file
necessary
paperwork with the hotel prior to obtaining permission to use the pier.
In
addition, the boat used cannot be too large, as the water is not very
deep
by the pier. Your dive master will need to contact the hotel directly
to
receive the information necessary to obtain pier access. Without this
information, access will be denied. This is for the safety and
security of
our guests.
Sincerely,

I am one of the unfortunate ones that have booked with Iberostar and had planned on using another dive op other than Dressel. After staying at the Iberostar at Playa Del Carmen last year, I quickly determined that I would not use their onsite dive op. Because of reasons too lengthy to explain, I cannot cancel my booking with Iberostar and move to another place.

My question is, are there any good dive ops within a reasonable taxi ride from the Iberostar? I would rather hassle with the expense and headaches of a taxi than to herd my family onto a cattle boat.

Christi, how long a drive is it to your boat?

I rest my case :) Thank you for sharing that Duane. As I said before, my tax information and financials are none of their concern, and this is actually documentaion requested on the list I have from them...as Duane said, only the accountants, bankers, company officers, and SAT (Mexican IRS) get to see that stuff.

Ironically, they never asked for marine park permits or harbor master permits...which demonstrate compliance with all local, federal and maritime safety regulations. I thought safety was their concern, why not ask for these things?

By the way, my letter to Iberostar was to get their attention that there was a problem. When I stated to them that I just did not want to take the word of the dive op, I was giving them the opportunity to explain themselves. In no way was I questioning the accuracy of Christi's statements.
I did not want my statements taken the wrong way.

Christi can still pick up at the beach as stated in her previous post.

[As far as informing people of the situation. Since I work by reservation only, I tell them up front when they contact me. If they are already booked at the hotel, I will offer to pick them up at the beach or at another location at their expense]

Other dive ops will pick up there just make sure you tell them where you are staying so they can tell you whether they pick up there or not.

Nope, not German. They are definitely Spanish owned.
