I didn't want to imply that your attentions were rude. Your actions would make ME look rude.

The seat belt is what it is, in many states it is illegal do be without them. Whether I use them or not is between me and my driving record, if a stranger approaches me to give me a "nice long talk" about them I will tell them to get out of my face in as much threatening manner as I can muster, and I will be ready to use physiscal force. Why? because to me that type of a approach is not normal, so I better be ready to the next crazy move from this guy.

Just because your friends can say you are laid back, doesn't make the fact that you would approach a stranger and give a "nice long talk" to, makes you less intrusive.

My post could be judged as juvenile, maybe I AM juvenile. My behaviour does not affect you, because if I walk into an operation that you are running we will both know instantly that I don't need to be there, juvenile and all I will be out of there and take my money somewhere else. The issue should end there and every one can be happy.

However what you wrote ealier is a post that I consider to be fascist and totalitarian. You may be laid back among your friends but can't leave someone else without an aditional second stage well along.

Let's just hope you and people like you don't run too often into me and people like me. This way we can both go on without aggravations.

The SSI OW course that I went through taught buddy breathing.......You give them your reg and breath of of your spare(octo).

That is not what they are talking about. They are refering to two divers breathing from a single 2nd stage. The doner controls the reg. The receiver takes 2 breaths and the doner takes his reg back, also takes 2 breaths; and then passes it back for another cycle. Not overly difficult with cool heads and a bit of practice.

I am still stuck on the "semi-solo" aspect of the OP's question.

Is that because of the "same ocean" attitude of so many divers, or are you really solo diving?

They may very well have been discussing it earlier, but awap is correct, it's not buddy breathing.

It's no longer taught by any agency I am aware of. At least not in OW. Maybe in CMAS or BSAC. I learned it in Adv. Nitrox due to the possibility of having to deco on one tank. Great skill to learn, but like many other skills, it's been removed from the OW curriculum.

I took my OW course last year by a NAUI instructor in cave country. We practiced OOA and buddy breathing quite a bit. It depends on the instructor what one learns in OW. Scary to think that this basic concept isn't a requirement.

When I said it's not being taught by any agency, I should have clarified to say it's not being taught by agency STANDARD. Exceptions were noted in this thread. Some agencies, NAUI for instance, allow instructors to exceed standard. Other agencies frown on this behavior.

It's not my version. Buddy breathing is when two divers breathe off a single second stage. You were taught octopus breathing. Buddy breathing was the standard before octos were common.

Yea I know the version that your talking about. I learned it in the stress and rescue class, but I was also taught in my OW course that what you call octo breathing is in fact still buddy breathing and replaced the 2 breaths of air of off the 2nd stage. I guesse it depends on the intstructer? Thanks Walter for your insight.

Oh and my instructer refuses to call the Alternate Air Source an Octo, lol. He calls it....well an Alternate Air Source.
