In all seriousness, I wonder how these work:
 
Personally I hate blue masking tape as it bakes on and leaves a residue after sitting in the sun for a week between dives. Duct tape is even worse. The residue makes a mess. I found this outdoor painters tape a few years ago. It works great, peels with zero residue and is waterproof.

I'll check this out. Blue masking tape doesn't hold up very well after a while (which makes sense). This looks to be more rugged.

In all seriousness, I wonder how these work:
They work great. It's solid plastic. UV is about the only thing that will kill them and even that takes a while.

I was going through my books recently and found a kids book that I'd labeled with my name almost 50 years ago.

I yank the mod tape off after the dive to differentiate the full vs empty tanks. I haven't had residue issues like you get with duct tape.
