I've been experimenting with different DIY screen protectors for my Oceanic Atom. I tried scotch tape, clouded over and unstuck pretty quick. 3M packing tape, didn't go cloudy, and lasted through half a dive, but when I got back to the car after ONE dive I noticed it was gone. I've now tried a screen guard protector for a Nintendo DS that I bought on eBay for a penny--yes, $0.01 with free shipping, includes two sheets which can make 4 screen protectors for my computer. So far it's lasted two dives and looks like some sort of silicone adhesive. This might be a winner and certainly the price is right.

Anybody else doing something creative? The "Invisible Shield" is supposed to be good, but seems expensive and heard stories about fit not being right, and plus I was looking more for a DIY, replaceable, disposable solution.

I'm using a material called VentureShield as a screen protector on my X1. It's an ~8 mil polyurethane film with an acrylic adhesive backing. It's primarily marketed for the automotive industry as an invisible paint shield product. It's guaranteed not to yellow and extremely tough. You apply it like window film on a car. There was a local dealer and I got a 1'X1' square for free when I explained what I was doing with it. You can also find places on line that sell small amounts of the tape.

3M makes a similar product used as blade tapes on helicopter rotors. You can get it through McMaster Carr, but it's about $500 a roll for 2" wide tape!!
