Yesterday, scubameg, katescubapro, a few non-SB'ers, and I went diving with Silent World dive center to the Spiegel Grove, followed by a drop on the Benwood. I was happy to see our old friend Captain Oliver Paoli (formerly from Avid Diver Charters in Pompano) as our captain yesterday. Oliver has recently moved to Silent World, and has always been a local's favorite in Pompano... Now we can dive some really big steel with Oliver down in the Keys!

The dive on the Spiegel yesterday was great as well. Visibility was probably around 75-80 feet, and the current was pretty mild as Spiegel Grove is concerned. I had a temp of 75 degrees on the wreck, and about 77 in the top 30' for hangs.

The second drop on the Benwood was a nice leisurely dive, with average viz for the Benwood (around 50') and practically no current. We saw a nice nurse shark, and a free swimming 6' long green Moray eel.

It was really great to see and dive with our friend Oliver again. I can't wait to head back down and dive some more big steel with Silent World and their newest captain... Oliver!

That's pretty warm temp for bottom timp on the SG. Last time I dove it in February the bottom temp was 63. I need to get down there soon.

Thank you for the kind words.
I am very happy to be able to operate as a captain as well as a recreational and technical instructor down in Key Largo.
I am even happy to crossover to an evolution CCR soon. Who would have thought !!
Please keep on coming down to visit us and see what Chris and I are up to.
C u' all soon !
Oliver.

Question for Capt. Oliver: Do you normally double dip on the Spiegel Grove and Duane? Or do you normally follow the wreck with a shallower dive? What's your normal routine?

My son and I are headed down there June 1 for a few days. We'll be diving on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and we want to do the big steel but not sure the double dip might be too much for us. Both AOW and he's a very solid, competent diver, but he's 16 and not too many dives under his belt.

Hi,
well...we do both depending on the day general consensus....if people would like to do twice a wreck or a mix a wreck and a reef. Usually the people who directly first booka trip indicate their preference...
Happy divin' !! u all !

Dang... I need to get down to Key Largo... and soon. :)

It's awesome that Capt. Oliver is down there with one of my favorite shops!

I hope Capt. Oliver is better than some of the captains Silent World had. :D :D :D
It sounds like he has a solid diving background and a good following. Wish you all the best.
