I had a student who also lost a fin and didn't realize it until I pointed it out. We continued the dive uneventually. We finally did find the missing fin.

I wasn't overly concerned with her safety since we practice a lot no of fin activity in the pool.

I would cross my legs and do douphin kick. I've tried this before and it seems to work.

I have concrete experience with this. Dolphin kicking is definitely the way to go.

... who is saving up for some replacement fin straps... at least I hope he is... he seems to have a fin come off at least once every dive.

On another note I frog kick and find that when diving with certain folks... Crowders... I can only use one fin depending on which side they are crowding me.

I helped with a class in which one of the students only had one leg. She got around great! I was imppressed.

used to carry an extra fin strap in my pocket for quick fixes in the water when I DMed. A lot of our dives require a good ol walk from the dive truck, and new diver would never take the time to loosen up the strap before fighting putting fins on.

I had to do a few dives with one fin. Got 22miles out to the kerama islands, one of my divers forgot A fin. Give him mine I took his one.

Student lost one fin, he got mine, I took his one.

I've just been using the basic flutter kick. But I found that it help to keep both legs moving like usual. I got around just fine. I wouldn't try to fight any currents or the like.

Funny this thread came to be now. Last weekend while on the tour dive with my students, one of them lost his fin, vis was about 10' anyway I removed one of mine and signaled to him to put it on. He looked at me and shook his finger to say that no that is not mine, I shook it at him and motioned for him to put it on. When we finished the dive and realized I had only one fin on, he said Hey! I thought you had found the fin you gave me on the bottom. I thought that was pretty funny.

I don't carry an extra fin strap as I inspect my equipment before the dive and make repairs then. I do have an extensive save a dive kit. You can cross your legs and do a modified flutter. You can extend the leg with out the fin off to the side and still use the one fin. You can put your fin in your hand and stroke with it while kicking with the good fin. You can take both fins off and just use your hands holding your fins just like a paraplegic would and you can pull and glide with your hands watching where you place them (your hands) of course. I now include this as a skill in my OW classes.

We saw a guy who only had one arm, but he was unable to dive as he said he kept rolling over, I felt pretty sorry for him as he had a suit specially made and the class and instructor left him sitting at the shore!
