Thanks everyone! You have all given great suggestions. I think I will definitely be picking up a slate, at least until I can get a computer. I have since came up with a more accurate way to keep up with my times. I set the bezel when I begin my dive, then when I surface I note the time that I surfaced and start the timer on my watch to keep up with my SI. Also, planning the dive and diving the plan will help a lot. On the particular dive that I had trouble, the instructor didn't give the dive plan until we were already in the water and we did our SI in the water, when we returned to shore he was expecting us to have remembered the plan and all of our times to reinforce how important it is that you keep up with everything on your own and not rely on someone else for your information.

Thanks again and happy diving!!

Orangeblood,

You need to follow a two step plan.

1) plan your dive.
2) dive your plan.

That would take care of your little issue.

Plus a tip on the side - it might be helpful to take a longer surface interval. Off gas as much as you can. 1.5Hrs is good.

Once again if you plan your dives before going in - things will be a lot smoother.

I do think it is a good idea to take a slate - BUT the slate should have your plan on it so you can dive it - using it as a recording tool would be secondary.
