I'm probably going to change the hose to white or red to minimize error.

Hose color can be helpful to assist in identifying the proper regulator, but it is controversial for a number of reasons. You should be aware of the drawbacks and decide for yourself. The main problem is that it isn't always possible to discern the color difference. Colors are hard to see at depth, or at night, or if visibility is extremely poor. I do have a yellow hose on my pony regulator but I do not depend upon the color for identification.

I had no idea the flying with a pony would trigger so much 'debate'. Regs always go in my carry-on. I'd probably try the same with a smaller pony tank.

Pony topics always draw a lot of posts.

Depending on where you're going, be aware that the regulatory framework differs from place to place. It isn't possible to get North American cylinders filled in Europe or the UK, for example, or to get European cylinders filled in the United States. Some destinations may be indifferent, and if you bring a fill whip and fill it yourself from another cylinder, it's possible that no one will care.
