I am bringing up this old post as I am now taking this medication. It may only be for a little bit, but trying to education myself. I have not had any issues so far on it. It is better than the Zoloft that caused GI issues. I hope to go off it this spring. i did read they feel it is safer to dive with than other older medications.
 
I'll add what little I can... I've been on Effexor for 20 years. Tried to get off it once and it was hell, as it is for many.
It acts in a different way than SSRIs so info about other antidepressants may not apply to Effexor.
I've been diving for many years and never had a side effect that I know of.
