Hey, I was researching which Ohio DNR controlled lakes are officially open for scuba diving and I noticed this one just north of Dayton. (About 1.5 hours from Cincinnati)

It's called Kiser Lake State Park.

Here are the apparent advantages I can see:

1. no motorized craft allowed.

2. claims to have very clear, clean water.

Scuba is permitted just not around the beach area(no idea why).

Standard state park diving stuff, notify them on your way on that you'll be diving and use a standard flag/float and dive with a buddy.

Anyone ever been there an want to warn us off/encourage us to check it out? :)

Sigh... just answered my own questions with a search for depth... 15 foot max... woohoo?

But you never know what treasures you might find there that the boaters have dropped. Watch out for entaglement hazards, they do a lot of fishing there.

15 feet, clear water in the middle of the summer.... Dive in your trunks or a shortie, maybe even with just a tank pack, no need for bulky BC. It may not be high adventure in the depths but there is a lot to be said but neutral bouyancy in near 80F water in the snowbelt.

You know, I feel a lot more positive about a visit to that park now... thanks... :)

I'm on the north side of dayton so that wouldn't be horribly far (35-45 minutes maybe?). It may not be deep, but once it warms up, I would be game for checking it out if others will be visiting the lake.

Guys...I hate to burst your bubble. I visited Kiser a year or so ago with the same thoughts. The place was REALLY ichy...lots of scum and stuff floating on the surface. Now, granted I only saw one area, so if you find anything different, please let us know. We always brag that we'll dive ANYTHING once. You can also dive Caesar's Creek...but there is ZERO viz.
