The best new dive knives are also not mentioned. Benchmade and Spydero both produce knives made of a new steel H1, that is impervious to rust.

Will.not.rust.

Really cool stuff. The Benchmade is a fixed blade, and the Spyderco SALT series are folding knives.

Here's the test:

If you lose the knife will you be upset? If the answer is no, then it's a knife worth considering for diving.

But my words are wasted. I didn't learn the lesson until I lost my precious SOG dive knife (that the SEALs use!). Since that time I've not lost any valuable metals diving. Rather, I've littered the waters with "busted" steak knives.

I have the newer model of #1, UK's Fusilier in the blunt model.

I really like it since it's BC mounted, it's also not very large, but at the same time not so small that it would be difficult to use while wearing gloves (5-7mm).

The only thing about them was that I didn't realize that you could take them apart (meaning take the blade out of the handle).

So now that I finally figured it out, I find a little bit of rust inside there... So now I'm trying to figure out the best way to remove the little bit of rust that's there, and how best to protect it in the future. Not to mention I also need to figure out how to sharpen the thing, I've only sharpened straight blades with stones before, never tried to sharpen a serrated blade before.

Being a knife collector for over 20 years, I feel like I know the cutlery industry pretty well. Here is the knife that I carry for snorkeling and other general ocean activities. I am not a diver, but I think this knife would be an excellent choice. It will not rust and is sharp enough to cut other dive knives in half. :) It also makes a nice every day carry and works great in the kitchen.

Don't let the price scare you. You can find them on-line for $45.00.

Best,
Tom

After losing my titanium shark-slayer, I stick with small and cheap.
