Anytime I can combine my 2 favorite hobbies into a single trip... I am happy :)

I will be in Phoenix for the USA v Mexico soccer game. After some site seeing, I will be going down to Rocky Ponit for a dive trip at Bird Island on Feb 10th. (Maybe a night dive too). No sea lions here in Florida, so.. I am really looking forward to it. I am going with Sun and Fun Divers. Talked with them on the phone and they seemed friendly. Anyone been out with them?

Anyway... Here is info on their schedule:

Also, found this interesting mp3 travel blog about a guy that went there for his checkout dive (shore dives) with some interesting info on the town:

When I was at DEMA, I ran into the operation you are thinking of. Unfortunately, it was the last hour of the last day, so I didn't spend a lot of time with them. Anyway, when I returned home, I decided to do a little due diligence and try to speak with people knowledgeable about the boat. While, I have not personally been on the boat, this is what I was told:

1. It is only out of Rocky Point for a few trips. The rest of the time it is out of San Felipe.

2. Cabins are nice, but the boat is more oriented to Fishing than diving.

3. Most diving (and fishing) is done out of Pangas. That is a plus and a minus as the smaller group and smaller boat can get into some of the coves.

4. Currents can be running fast.

The boat is the Andrea Lynn (130').

I hope this helps.

I've heard it is not so good. Is it worth a trip or is it like our local lakes but with a 3 hour drive? I've also heard of a new liveaboard based out of there that will do Sea of Cortez mid-islands?

Only accounts of real experience please.

That's the one. Thanks for the link and the info.

shark.byte.usa:
I noticed their phone number is a local west valley 623 #!!

The young lady who reps the boat is in Peoria. BTW - She is HOTTTT!

Anybody got a ballpark of what those Andrea Lynn liveaboards cost?? They have one in mid-May out of Rocky Point.

It has all the extra charges on the site but not the cost of the liveaboard itself :shakehead

Going off memory, I believe it was $1250 out of Rocky Point.

A few of my friends, my wife and I will be going to Rocky Point the 10th through the 13th of April. Shore dive on the 10th and the 13th with a bird island trip on the 11th. If anyone is interested in diving with us I can check to see if there is room on the boat to bird island. That should cut down on the cost for us all. Let me know.
