Diving in Bora Bora?

I'm going to Bora Bora and want to finish my open water there. I need two finish two dives.

1. How are diving conditions there?
2. Can anyone recommend an agency there to finish my certification?
3. Is there a chamber around there?

It would be perfect for finishing open water. Plenty of shallow sandy areas for drills, great viz, lots of fish.

Check the Pacific Islands forum for more information on specific operators. I dove there from the Paul Gauguin, which had its own crew, but many large resorts on the island have on-site dive shops. If you have a dive op at your hotel, find out who it is since that will be the most convenient.

There's a chamber on Tahiti I believe, so you'd probably be airlifted in case of emergency. Make sure you have insurance for that.

Be prepared for the cost. Diving in French Polynesia is not cheap and is often priced by the single dive, not the more standard 2-tank combo.

Short and easy boat rides to all the dive sites. Great viz, blue warm water diving with large variety of marine life. I. saw lots of lemon sharks, black tipped sharks and spotted rays.

I did my OW referral dives with Top Dive in Bora Bora. I would recommend them without any hesitation.

You will pay excess baggage fees for the inter-island flight because it is not the same as the international flight's weight restrictions for baggage. Double check weight restrictions from the airline you are flying for the international leg and for the inter-island leg.

I was there for two days of diving in February. The first day we dove with Top Dive, and the second with Bora Diving Center. Both operators are excellent. To save money, buy either a Te Moana Pass or an Interisland Pass (depends which operator you go with). It will save a lot of money and your dives will be about $50 each. During the trip, I dove at six islands and Bora Bora was my favorite. Enjoy!

I know there are lots of reef and other small sharks, though is there much of a chance of coming in contact with any aggressive sharks there?

I spent a lot of time with the sharks there and had no problems. Both dive shops will keep you safe.
