Viewing a bathymetric map of the offshore areas of South Florida shows a significant number of symetrical depressions. After a lot of research, I found out that these were sand "borrow" holes dredged for shore replishment projects.

I like to do shore dives with a DPV and one of these holes is close to a dive we are planning. Before we go into one of these holes, I was wondering if anyone had dove into these holes and what if anything is in there.

See image below for an example of these "borrow" holes between the first and second reef:

Send me the address of that starting point and I'll let you know. Or come with. It might just be sand, but it's something new to do.

Send me the address of that starting point ...
It's not a secret and everyone see's the depth change on their bottom finder when they exit the Hillsboro inlet in Pompano heading south. It's right infront of the Pompano Marriott at 1200 N Ocean Blvd, Pompano Beach, FL 33062. You can even see it on google maps. Others that have dove it said it can hold some schools of small fish, but they run to the nearby reef as soon as you approach..

Would you provide a link to the maps, please? I have been diving in So. Florida for years and may be able to give you some information

You need to download CMaps or Navionics. Here are the coordinates: -80.0751181109004,26.24826491586701

But like it was mentioned; just south of the Hillsborough Inlet.

But these are not the only borrow holes, they are many of them.

Ok. So just East of the Marriot in Pompano at about 1/2 mile out. If weather looks good for the weekend, I may go take a look.
