The following is from a mail I recieved from a guy in a similar situation to myself looking to do some UK diving. He is getting a group together to go dive the first weekend in October. If you are interested PM me and I'll pass on your details. It has been suggested that we might want ti meet up with a YD group going to Stoney that weekend.

Anyway, I guess the best thing to do is just arrange a trip as soon as
possible so do you all want to let me know when you’re free? I’m currently
expecting to be away this weekend so who’s available for the weekend after
(4/5th October)? Also, due to my limited UK experience any suggestions of
dive destinations would be good. Someone mentioned a place called Wraysbury
(http://www.wraysbury.ws/) to me that looks quite good so I was thinking of
giving that a go - any comments/suggestions welcome.

Also it’d be handy to know how people are off for transport - I know there’s
at least one person on the list without a car so would there be hassles with
car sharing/public transport or stuff like that?

Oh yeah, I’m PADI AOW with about 25 dives but only a couple in the UK (can’t
remember if that was on the messge I posted). How about the rest of you?

Another thing, I don’t know if you’re all just happy to just go diving with
people you’ve never met before or if you’d like to meet up first - it
doesn’t really bother me but as I think there’s a few of us close to the St
Albans/Hemel area it shouldn’t be too much hassle for a few of us to meet up
for a drink or something beforehand. Let me know what you think for that...

Only other thing I can think of is how are people off with equipment? Is it
just me who’s still buying their kit and has to hire stuff? Just wondering
as this kind of thing could limit dive destinations to places we can hire
stuff.

Hmm, that’s all I can think of right now. Hope to hear from you soon...

Count me in! (I hope!). My wife could be finishing her OW on sunday at Wraysbury. She has a choice of sun 5th or sat 18th.
If she chooses Sun the 5th, I won't really want to come on saturday as two days of Wraysbury is too much for any man :) However, if she chooses the 18th, I can come either day.
Ill post her decision when she makes it!

im going to be doign some shore diving in portland the week after with my club if anyones interested, its all shore diving as the boats were all booked up and bloody expensive
but if anyone wants to join feel free, dont think they will have too many complaints, its sure diving after all :p

sorry i havnt been around that much recently
works picked up a bit, and trying to work on some kind of schedule for next year for us based on all the feed back to the club idea :)

cya soon all

My wife has made a decision and Ill be at Wraysbury on sunday the 5th. Since Im definately there on the 5th, Saturday is out for me. So if anyone wants to dive.. be there at 9am! (Ill have to leave at 2pm or so)

What are the condiditons like at Wraysbury?
Bottom composition?
Viz?
Toilets?
Food?
Dive Shop?
General organisation?
Car parking?
How busy does it get on a weekend?

Bottom composition is clay / silt with bits of shale?

8m max to nothing. Vis is dependant on whos been in before you - (and on aglae). One bad kick = no vis. Frog kick please.

Toilets are 2 porta-loos. One for each sex. Not nice or very clean.

Food - bacon sarnies? Never tried. Hot drinks and cans avaliable.

Dive shop has a variety of sundries, IE clips, bands. A few more larger accessories eg DSMBs, reels, etc. Things you may find you need on the day. No / or not many large items eg suits BCDs stocked, though may be ordered.

Organisation is OK. There is a registration scheme in place. Recently the staff have been really good too, which hasn't always been the case. Fills can take a while dependant on how busy & if all compressors are working.

Carparking is all within a few metres of the lake.

It gets fairly busy in the weekend, usually the mornings.

Definitely will NOT be diving there then ... The Stoney quarry is still the closest best option during the winter

Personally, I think its a good site to practise skills in. Believe it or not I actually go there for the bad vis and cold water.
