Goodness gracious, you guys are kids.

I learned to dive at 51. I'm 52 now. I'd dive with an 18 year old new diver, if said 18 year old had a good, humble attitude toward diving and learning. (I'd dive with an 80 year old with the same attitude.)

My dive buddies range from 35 to older than I am. It's all good.
lol....Kid's....we are boys and girls:rofl3:

I´m 27.
I got certified (@ 21) while going thru college and only managed 10-20 dives/year. The last few years, after joining "the rat-race" I´ve avg 90+dives/year, the difference is that I can afford to dive now...

I did OW 2 years ago. I'm 19 now.

hahah....

i thought you were a guy.... oops!

The warm water is frying your brain, Mike. :D

ya well.. i guess i need to hang out in the BC threads more often... but its sooooo cold....

I'm 23. Started diving when I was 16. Had my own set of gear by 19. . . I think scuba put me more into debt than college did but I don't regret it. I figure I never did any "expensive sports" so scuba is it. I was a swimmer so you really didn't need much for that!

Always lookin for buddies too - I know the feeling, especially in land-locked Chicago area where you hardly find young divers since there really isn't that much to see. I can see those of you living closer to the oceans having more youth into scuba.

21 here, and have been diving for 6 years, I know exactly what your saying but it seems to be mostly cost, everyone seems to want to do it

At 52, and with a pretty good job...so far.., I still find this sport expensive. BUT...you don't have to buy all the toys to enjoy it. I am trying to enjoy the ones I have for awhile before I spend a lot more...but there is always the temptation. Luckily, I have too many other bills to pay!

Money, fear, self confidence. I am always trying to talk my non diver buddies into getting certified, and those are the top three reasons.

So, I've noted the lack of younger divers too (I'm 22, got certified at 21), but what I've REALLY noticed is the lack of women my age who dive. Almost every boat I want on in Mass would be me and a bunch of men 35-60 years old. In fact, I can honestly say that in MA, I never met a single female diver in her 20s...I heard of one, but for all I know she's imaginary since I never met her.

Since moving to CA, I've seen a few women, but mostly, again, above 35.

Are 20 something women cheaper than 20 so:dance: mething men? Or do we just not like the cold water in MA and CA? Any women from Hawaii or Florida want to chime in? :)

Another thought--I think the secret for younger diver success is really to buy the gear all at once. We've so little money that once we've invested it, the thought of wasting the money by quitting is unthinkable! Then we're hooked for life :)

I'm one! Although I just got certified last weekend in FL, I can't wait to do some MA diving. I'm 28.
