Hey Ken,
Never said they were dying left and right . . .

Hi Steve,

My intent is not to get into a pissing match with you on this (and certainly not on the day when we remember a man who preached non-violaence) but . . .

Yes, you did say/imply that.

Here's the quote from your post (#4 in this thread): "More instructors have died because of panicking beginners than I care to count."

My point is simply that, especially in this type of a forum, it is incumbent upon those of us who post, let alone those of us who purport to give advice (myself included) to be accurate and 100% factual in what we say. If it's a guess, say so. If it's specualtion, say so. If it's factual, quote the source.

But if it's fantasy, avoid it.

Just two more of my two cents.

Don't know about the OP, however one fatality is more than I care to count. Especially if it is me or one of my kids.

Does anyone know the age of the victim in the OP?

I was actually diving at Corral on the north end by the houses on Jan 15th. We were in the water from about 8am to 9am. We left the beach around 10:15am. The water was FLAT. No surf at all to speak of and viz was about 20 to 25'. Conditions were as easy as you could ask to have. I had another instructor and two students doing a dive and I went off to dive solo as I was not needed. I am very saddened by this news it does us no good to guess about an unwitnessed event. I doubt it was the diving solo as an issue as much as it was the person being solo no matter where he was diving or not.

I did not see any other divers when we were there.

I rarely ever come to these sites but this story caught me. I was at Corral at this exact spot from about 6:45 to 10:15 ish on this day. I was diving with 3 others. I did not see any other divers in the or on shore. The conditions were flat and calm, viz was 20 - 25'. Couldn't have asked for an easier day at the beach. I am saddened that this man was alone at the time of the incident but I am sure diving was not an issue that day.
