Is anyone else planning on attending this event? Maybe do a dive in Malibu after?

Divers' Safety Day 2007 - and also the first GLACD 3R's event for 2007.

Divers' Safety Day is a day to learn about what you can do to make diving
safer, in prevention or having to respond to a diving emergency. Panel
discussions with industry experts and public safety personnel, as well as
demonstrations will be given.

Attendees will receive information on diver safety and be able to use their
skin diving equipment to participate in a surf entry and exit skills class.
All divers participating in the surf skills class must present their current
C-card and must be equipped with mask, snorkel, fins and flotation vest (BC
or stab jacket). A wet suit and weight belt with quick release buckle are
suggested. No scuba diving and no dry suits.

Lecture topics will include surf entries and exits, use of snorkel, weight
belt and PFD, rip currents and beach topography, diver floats and flags. We
will also talk about how to activate the EMS, diver fitness and training.
We hope to have the following agencies participate: LACFD Lifeguards, US
Coast Guard HH-65 landing at the lifeguard LZ, LASD Emergency Services
Detail Dive Team, and Ventura County Sheriff's Department SAR Dive Team. We
are working with the LACFD Lifeguards to put together two
demonstrations--surf rescue of injured diver brought to the beach and an
ocean rescue with USCG rescue swimmer. These will be afternoon demos.

Please bring your own beach chair for the lectures, and a sack lunch, as
there is no cooking permitted on the beach or parking lot.

Schedule: (Tentative)
Divers' Safety Day will be held on May 19, from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

The morning session will include registration, and a surf entry and exit

demonstrations by the Los Angeles County Lifeguards and the U.S. Coast
