A diver fainted in a sea cave near Porto Cristo in the east of Mallorca on Wednesday and had to be rescued by rescuers. As the National Police announced on Thursday, the diver is a 20-year-old who had to be taken to Manacor Hospital after the incident.
The Cueva del Dimoni (Devil's Cave) is very popular among divers. The young man was reportedly out with two friends. They lost sight of their friend and could only see his lantern on the seabed. A short time later they found him unconscious, floating on the water's surface and pulled him to a dry spot.
One of the divers was able to make himself known by screaming. Passers-by on the coast were able to get help. Firefighters, paramedics and police officers managed to rescue the man from the winding cave . The diver was supposed to be taken to the Son Espases hospital, but due to the seriousness of the situation he was taken to the hospital not far from Portocristo.
There are numerous sea caves off the coast of Mallorca. It is possible to swim into them, especially in the east of the island, where the cliffs are high. However, inexperienced swimmers are generally strongly advised not to go there.
