Divemaster Training

I was diving for 3 years before I started working on my DM. I had about 225 dives at that point. I did rescue in Oct 2003, started working on my DM Jan 04 and finished July 04.

Mine was over a year. Not only did I have to help with a lot of OW classes, but had to help my instructor move...twice! I also had to house-sit for him a couple tomes.

I did my training with BLUE SEASON BALI in Indonesia and i did my Divemaster in 8 weeks and IDC over a month and then completed an MSDT Internship with them where i learnt how to properly teach all sorts of courses under the guidance of experienced PADI Instructors working there.


I would reccmomend them to anyone!

I have held or do hold the equivalent certification of Instructor Trainer or above in five different agencies but I have never been certified as a Dive Master.

I'm glad they have revamped the PADI DM program, I think the bar needed to be a little higher if someone is going to be called a 'master' at something. The minimum dive requirement on the original program was a little scary to me. I took my time going through the PADI program (years ago on the old program) and had a wonderful instructor. Went right into AI after that so both together took me several months to complete (doing nights and weekends). Rescue and DM are two courses that I hate to see shops try and rush people through.

I'm in the PADI DM program right now and don't expect to finish until next summer. I'm in no hurry unlike the other students my instructor has. I actually started the program before I had finished my SSI AOW and only did it because my instructor said I was a perfect candidate and wanted to work with me. I figured it would be good training and knew that I would have more than 100 dives by the time I was finished.

I've actually just did my 51st dive last weekend and earned my SSI Master Diver certification. Making progress, learning, and having a good time diving. I only get to dive about every six to eight weeks, so I know it will take time. I'm in no hurry.
