I've used the Citizen NH6931-06E 1000 Meter Professional Diver Automatic for about five years now. Phenomenal watch!

After hundreds of dives, I've never had a single problem with it. Built like a battleship, but very large, thick, and pricey.

I was under the impression that back in the day before dive computers, EVERYBODY dove with a SPG and a watch. That was how it was done....right?

SPGs are relatively recent. That's why we used J-valves.

Oops, just saw this was already commented.

First was a J-valve, watch and depth guage.

Then came an SPG, watch and depth gauge.

Now a Dive Computer, but I add a watch that is also a depth gauge and a data logger. Some people dive AI computers w/o an SPG.

I didn't read through the thread, so I apologize if it's already been said, but I'm a huge fan of the Luminox Navy SEAL line. You can get them for ~$150-$200 online and they come in all different colors and band types. You can swap bands to a black steel one to wear around the real world, swap to rubber/nylon strap, and it even has one with an integrated compass.

For the price it's an amazing watch, I got the yellow highlight/black face and it's perfect. I can see it in low light, it's bulletproof, and when I first got it I actually had to make sure to keep it under the covers when I slept because it was so bright it kept me awake.

For the price it's almost disposable too if you some how destroy it.

I finally broke down and bought a Doxa. Went for the limited edition sub 600T. Hard to love a thing but I still pinch myself when I look at it. One thing is for sure, I don't see anybody else with one on the dive boat. Maybe I need a better class of divers to hang out with.:cool2:

I have a Citizen Hyper Aqualand and have NEVER regretted buying it!
The BEST piece of Dive Equipment I ever purchased!
I wear it daily.
I would pay twice its original purchase price to replace it! (if I had to)
If you are going to wear a watch anyway, why not have a backup Depth gauge/Bottom Timer?

I seem to have only one primary requirement these days on my watches.
BULLETPROOF as it can get.

Now the qualifiers:

Durability is a given so here goes....

#1
Sapphire crystal.
#2
Glows or something at night.
#3
Cheap.....sorta
#4
Unusual is nice.

I really like the Citizens.
I have DESTROYED 2 of them.
No sapphire crystals are available as far as I know on Citizens.
They are off my list until I can get a sapphire crystal I am sad to say.

I have 6 St. Moritz watches.
Cheap
Reliable.
I can read them at night.
I have not killed one yet.
Batteries dying are kind of an issue though.

Wow...good value for a 2000meter watch...

I've used a simple $40 Timex (reef gear) for 10+ years as my dive watch. Screw down case back and crown, 200m rating, ratcheting bezel, all I need. I have more expensive watches, but as another poster stated, losing those leads to bouts of crying on the deck.
