I could point you to one real close by in Portland, Oregon. You don't driving a bit do you?

I don't know how close you want to be, but I recommend a shop in Aurora. It's a bit of a drive, but the owner, Dave Rautio, and his wife run an outstanding shop. Their level of training is excellent. YMMV

You have a few. Lake Zurich, Naperville and a few others. Not like it used to be as recently as 2000, a lot have fallen by the wayside!

I just found another shop in town that I think is pretty damn good. It is located in Plainfield (a little farther for you to drive but would be well worthit) and is family owned. They don't seem to have the snobby LDS attitude and are business for the sake of diving and having fun. They are competitivly priced to deal with the Internet and in fact have a web store.
