I was wondering if this is a good deal? Regulators - Regulator Packages - Northeast Scuba Supply

I am looking to get a new regulator and wanted to try a different company than sherwood. I have good things about scubapro as well. Right now my top regulators are Diver right, scubapro 250, zeagle flathead VI and possibly another sherwood.

I will hopefully be ice diving in a few years and will take up deep diving. I eventually want to get into tech but have other classes i would like to take first.

I have heard good things about all of the regulators and have service centers for all of the brands around here.

Thats a great price for a RG3000 set up.
Only thing I would add is the ICE kit for the 1st stage.

I have both the RG3000 set up and a Scubapro MK17 / G250v and am happy with both regs.
The RG3000 is a little easier to work on than the Scubapro, and much easier to get parts for if you do your own maintenance.

I have a couple of the Dive Rite Hurricane regulators (RG3500, the next step up and environmentally sealed) and I now have a major concern. Dive Gear Exrpress (a huge Dive Rite online seller) no longer offers the Hurricane. I talked to them when I tried to buy a second setup and they thought it would be several months (to forever) before they could get more. Dive Rite lists them as temporarily unavailable.

This is not the kind of longevity I want to see. I now have 2 orphan regulators for which parts are available today but who knows about next year. If they can't get the regulators, why bother with parts?

Now, the Hurricane is NOT the RG3000. I understand that. But still, it would be nice if the regulator was still on the market beyond current inventories.

Dive Rite regulators (all of them) worry me. So, for the next cold water reg, I bought the Oceanic FDX10/Delta 4. I figured that if the US Navy, Coast Guard and NOAA have chosen it as their cold water regulator, it's good enough for me!

I haven't used the Hurricane. I bought one for my son-in-law and I bought a second as a backup. Still, I'm worried...

Give Wayne or Jason a call at www.DiveSeekers.com Toll Free 1-888-728-2247 and ask them what they can put together for you on this or a similar package. They are a pretty high-volume Dive Rite dealer (among other brands) and I'm sure can help you out with a great price as well as great before, during, and after-the-sale service...

Tell them I sent you - they'll treat you right!

I recently made the switch from a Sherwood Blizzard to a Flathead 7 and I would have to say that they are worlds apart. While the Blizzard is a solid, reliable reg that got me through my first ten years of diving without a single problem, it does not compare to the Flathead at all. The internal workings of the VI and 7 are the same (from what I've seen on the forums), so you can save a few bucks on the VI and get a top quality reg. I almost bought a Mk17/G250, but Zeagle's "Made in the USA" and the chance to be the first kid on my block with a 7 won out (plus the great 30% off deal they have going on now). I don't know much about Dive Rite, so I can't help you there. If you have the money, either of the Flatheads or the Mk 17/G250 would be the way to go for cold water/deep.

Dive Rite doesn't make their own regs according to my LDS. Dive Rite does have a great parts gurantee though. Parts for life, no matter what.

I like the looks and warranty on the Dive Rite. I just found the Scubamax which is similar and much cheaper. I have good reviews about it and it has the flathead first stage. Not sure what to do.

It's better to have too many to choose from than not enough. :D

There are some really good deals on Zeagle Flathead VI's out there now. I'm a Mares guy, but just had the pleasure of rebuilding a Flathead VI this past weekend, and was very impressed with the design and ease of servicing of both the 1st and 2nd stages.

The Zeagle service kits are available online from ZeagleExpress, ScubaToys, and probably others, without having to know any "secret handshakes"

No "special factory tools" required (other than an IP gauge); just a pin spanner, open end wrenches, and some allen wrenches. All stuff you can get at a good hardware store (except the IP gauge).

Anyway, I was very impressed with the regulator. I had bought it on Ebay as a "project regulator" to practice on, it was in bad need of overhaul, but it "cleaned up real nice" and is now a "keeper" :D

So I'd suggest taking a closer look at the Zeagle Flathead VI as far as "bang for the buck" goes (although any of the regs you've mentioned so far would probably make you quite happy).

Good luck and best wishes.

I have narrowed it down to the Zeagle VI, Dive Rite 3000 and the Scubamax 1008. I got a deal for a Zeagle VI, BC hose and Viper octo from scuba toys. I am working on getting a deal on a Dive rite system with a similar setup, reg octo and bc hose. Lastly it is hard to beat the price for a Scubamax 1008 at $200.00.

I like the idea of the warranty on the Zeagle and Dive Rite.
