Well I seemed to have fixed the problem if I tighten the valve beyond what I think should be neccesary.

Also when I took it off, what unscrewed was piece the O.P seat seals against. So the seat, spring etc are still captured. Any good way to seperate the two pieces?

If that's what happened you are "screwed". Very difficult to seperate the parts. You might try hot and cold water. I've had limited success with that approach.

We make our own parts, and on ours the "inner piece" that's stuck in your OPV has a large hex on the bottom so you can get a wrench on it.

If it's now working you may want to just put it back on the wing. Keep in mind that if you ever need to replace the seat or string you will need to seperate those parts.

Check to make sure it's not catching open.

Tobin thats better then what I was going to suggest. . . A hammer. . .
 
I've managed to get a grip on that inner (middle of the three pieces) piece with a pair of channel locks. Along with hot & cold to help the 2 pieces seperate, I've had success. the channel locks will mare the inner a bit. Then screw the ,middle piece back on the the piece inside the wing as tight as you can. Or you could do it right and get the tool. (I have not gotten that desperate yet.) Then lube the threads on the outer piece and screw it back on fairly lightly. That may keep it from unscrewing in the wrong place next time (or at least make it easier to get apart). I think the guy who designed that skipped his physics classes when they were covering friction and torque.
 
Rather than Channel Locks (last resort), first use those small rubber circular sheets that Banks and Health Care Centers give out to the elderly to aid in opening screw-top items such as pickle jars . . .press the two pieces together & attempt to unscrew with both palms using the rubber "grip & torque amplifier" and hopefully they'll separate. . .

One thing I've noticed when I've gotten home is that the wing i've received is slightly different to the punctured one (On the NON punctured one: Venture wing is written in smaller text, the OPV cord goes through a bit of fabric hanging off the wing and it doesn't appear to be finished as nicely - makes me think it might be "older" stock). .




That's the older one. The dump valve on the new one is on the plate side of the wing.

My first thought was that you might have gotten an OLD model. Sometimes people have stock that is deeply discounted to get it off the shelf. Sometimes this stuff is sitting around for more than a year or two. Springs loose tension, seals dry rot, stuff goes bad just sitting, especially in a tropical enviroment. Could be an older model valve that was never replaced. 52 sounds like he's onto something.
