Shoulder pull dumps are a minority configuration.

Not if you include the pull dumps on poodle jacket BCDs.

If you include all BCDs then plain elbows would be a very minor percentage.

Unquestionably, true. I was (erroneously, without full elaboration) speaking about true BP\W configurations (i.e. not the current crop of back-inflate BCs from AL, SP, etc.) that I've seen.

Among those, Dive Rite seems rare in offering contemporary pull-dump options on their wings. I am curious as to the rationale.

It's really easier to dump air in a tight spot. Blue Springs Madison comes to mind. Try lifting your hand high enough in that space to do that. Not that you really need to adjust buoyancy when you're so close that sometimes you're having to suck your gut in to get through. The pull dump valves are not nearly as fragile as some would have you believe, but if you don't like or trust them, stay away! I've been using them as long as I've had BCs and love them, even to putting them on wings that did not come with them.

I think some of the reticence to use them comes from the fact that you can't find a short hose that uses them. Making your own from leader mono solves that easily. I've even had people suggest that making my own pull strings could be catastrophically bad. Meh.

I've got a DR Voyager inbound that has the pull-dump. None of my other current wings (DR/Oxy/Hog) have it. Maybe I'll give it another try ...

Failure mode of a broken pull string is just no shoulder dump - revert to inflator or kidney dump ... Quelle Horreur! :rofl3:

Quelle Horreur!
C'est la Muerte! Their phobia is that it will somehow stick open. In a cave, I always dive with redundant buoyancy. Usually that's a redundant bladder, since I don't dive dry.

Please don't toss it, unless you want a shorter hose.

Make your own! The line that pulls the dump valve can be replaced to fit your needs. I use 1mm mono, some double barrel crimps to fit, and a good crimper. In fact, I use this to attach SS Snap Clips to various things I carry on my dive, like lights and whatever. I use mono because it can't rust, has a 100# capacity, and I can easily cut any gear away if needed. The last part doesn't apply to the line in your hose.

Caveat, the first ones I made too short, and it was too easy to vent air. I make it about an inch of play. You do have to remove the hose from the inflator valve and the BC snorkle to do this.

Caveat #2. I really like pull dumps on 12" hoses. No one sells that arrangement, so I bought short hoses and replaced the stupidly long ones and retained my pull dump.

My neighbor had a crimper and I tried this. Got the pull to activate with zero play. While still taking a good bit of effort.
The hose moves just like it did before. I have no idea why Dive Rite lied to me. I will not be buying them in the future.

Thanks for your help with this. There are good people in this world!

Well, DGX does (Remote Exhaust Inflation Assemblies). The Voyager that I got has the 12" remote-exhaust - Too short for me.

Anybody want to trade for a 16" Plain-Elbow version?

How did they lie? I love DR. Good stuff from honorable people. Yeah, I know most of them since the factory is 20 minutes away.

Don't you still have a plain elbow?

Well, Yes ...

I have (3) DR 16" Plain-elbow inflator assemblies ... on 3 other DR wings [plus (3) 12" plain-elbow assemblies since they are all Dual-Bladder wings.]

So this is not a crisis - I can always borrow for the time being.
