Yes, I know the boats are a problem. I saw something recently from one of the people at LCBR that of the 9 boats Mr. T owns, 8 were lost in the storm. Included in that total of 9 would be the 3 Newton 42's operated by LCBR, the Conch Club's Newton 42, Linton's private fishing boat, his smaller skiff, and whatever boats they have for Brac Reef Resort. But then later I saw something else that mentioned that most of the LCBR dive staff was over on Grand Cayman trying to salvage the boats they took there for "safe harbor" during the time NHC had the storm track plotted right through Little Cayman. Whatever the case, I have no doubts about Linton's ability to pull a rabbit out of the hat. The man is amazingly creative. (Right after Mitch hit in '98 and destroyed the LCBR dock, Linton came down to see me about using the shipment of lumber I had just received to rebuild his dock. We made a deal...and true to his word he replaced all the lumber he borrowed from me.)

That is "bad" news. Being that they lost almost all of their boats how feasable do you think it is that they'll have boats up and running by late Nov?

I originally saw that comment about 8 lost. More recently I read someplace that they had 3 of the 9. Maybe this is a matter of finding and extracting the boats from whatever mangrove or parking lot they landed in and some repairs. Perhaps some more will or have shown up, knock on wood.

This site just says Little Caymans boats are being repaired.

You don't need a boat to dive LCM. Less than 5% of the dives I have done there have been from a boat. Just get one of Perry's fine (!?) vehicles & some tanks and you're away.

Just talked to "Sue" on the 800 line for LCBR and she told me that all of the Newton boats have been recovered with minamal damage. However, Bob Soto's boats sustained substantial damage. LCBR should reopen on Oct 30...:)

We have reservations at Pirate's Point for Oct. 16-23rd. We talked to Gladys (the owner) this morning. She said their dock is gone, but everything else is fine there. They had already been closed for regular remodeling before the hurricane hit, due to re-open on 10/16, and they still plan to open then. She said the island (LC) is pretty much fine and we can still have an enjoyable vacation there no problem, however, she told us if we still plan to come, we need to make absolutely sure beforehand that our airline will fly us to GC and bring proof that we're continuing on to LC because "they aren't letting anyone in to stop at GC, but they will let you fly there if you are continuing right on to LC and not stopping". I don't know what we're going to do at this point b/c we were also supposed to stay at Cobalt Coast on GC 10/9-10/16, and it doesn't look like that's going to happen, so we need to figure out what to do.

Talking to Sue from LCBR, she says the only ones there letting go to GC are locals and those with work permits.

You'll probably have to cancel that portion of it, check with your airline for cancelation policies and get conformation from cobalt that they won't be open for business.
