There is a report that just appeared (http://help.stormcarib.com/read.php?f=14&i=4155&t=4155) from "Stacey" at the Little Cayman Beach Resort that they will re-open for business on October 30. This is excellent news, and proof that things are getting back to normal on the Sister Islands. I can't place Stacey precisely, but think she is the very charming receptionist at LCBR. Earlier this week a detailed account of her narrow escape from Ivan while on GCM was posted on StormCaribe (http://help.stormcarib.com/read.php?f=3&i=8618&t=8618). This one is guaranteed to send shivers up your spine!

I also saw where webmaster Vinney had added a note to the Paradise Villas web page (http://www.paradisevillas.com/) that they intend to re-open by mid-November. No word yet on Pirate's Point, Southern Cross, or McCoy's yet. I understand that Pirate's Point suffered the least damage of any of the resorts on Little Cayman, so have no doubt they will be open in the same timeframe. Unfortunately, Southern Cross was the most severely damaged, so it may be a while there.

Those of you who are rushing to change reservations away from the Cayman Islands this winter may want to take a second look at the Sister Islands.

We have reservations at Pirate's Point for Oct. 16-23rd. We talked to Gladys (the owner) this morning. She said their dock is gone, but everything else is fine there. They had already been closed for regular remodeling before the hurricane hit, due to re-open on 10/16, and they still plan to open then. She said the island (LC) is pretty much fine and we can still have an enjoyable vacation there no problem, however, she told us if we still plan to come, we need to make absolutely sure beforehand that our airline will fly us to GC and bring proof that we're continuing on to LC because "they aren't letting anyone in to stop at GC, but they will let you fly there if you are continuing right on to LC and not stopping". I don't know what we're going to do at this point b/c we were also supposed to stay at Cobalt Coast on GC 10/9-10/16, and it doesn't look like that's going to happen, so we need to figure out what to do.

Excellent news! Please stop by and say "Hi" if you get a chance. I'll arrive there the afternoon of October 20, and am in the house about 1/4 mile east of Pirate's Point which is right next to the lighthouse. Unless something changed during Ivan (!), my house is the one with the big radio towers.

What about LCBR's boats? If you go into http://blueoceanart.com/ivan/ the first picture is of Cayman Sister on the Yacht Club road. This is a Reef Divers boat either from LCBR or Brac Reef now on a road here in GCM. Ivan didn't move it from LCM to here - I understand that, when Ivan was originally projected to hit LCM & the Brac they moved their boats here & when Ivan changed course, it was too late to move them back.

If the web sites are up to date, Cayman Sister was from LCBR.

I'll be making my first trip to the Cayman Islands in late Nov. I'll be staying at LCBR on Little Cayman and have no intentions of canceling. I'll make it a point to stop by and say hello...:)

Yes, I know the boats are a problem. I saw something recently from one of the people at LCBR that of the 9 boats Mr. T owns, 8 were lost in the storm. Included in that total of 9 would be the 3 Newton 42's operated by LCBR, the Conch Club's Newton 42, Linton's private fishing boat, his smaller skiff, and whatever boats they have for Brac Reef Resort. But then later I saw something else that mentioned that most of the LCBR dive staff was over on Grand Cayman trying to salvage the boats they took there for "safe harbor" during the time NHC had the storm track plotted right through Little Cayman. Whatever the case, I have no doubts about Linton's ability to pull a rabbit out of the hat. The man is amazingly creative. (Right after Mitch hit in '98 and destroyed the LCBR dock, Linton came down to see me about using the shipment of lumber I had just received to rebuild his dock. We made a deal...and true to his word he replaced all the lumber he borrowed from me.)
