#1 dive buddy and I went to both South Brohard and Venice public beach yesterday with the idea of diving. There are Red Tide warnings at both beaches, dead fish at both beaches and respiratory and throat irritation caused coughing when we got within 50 ft of the water.
For future use:

Red Tide - Statewide Status
 
Will be down in 2 weeks, hope things have cleared up by then.
 
Red tide isn't an issue.

FFM Check.
Drysuit Check.
SPID of EasyDECON 200 Check.

What Red tide?
 
Took my boat south of the pier today.
10 ft plus viz - 86F
Lots of small finds - but great fun
Very little red tide out in the Gulf
Very few dead fish on the surface or bottom
The red tide was noticeable in the Intracoastal
with quite a few dead fish there too.
 
7/8/18 S. Brohard w/ dkramer
High tide 8:20 am, in at 9:15 am. Winds ENE less than 5 mph. First dive after major red tide outbreak in June. Saw a few sheepshead, snapper, and stone crab. nothing else. vis a murky 3-5, max depth 18 fsw.
 
Thursday, S.Brohard, in at 0930, outgoing tide, water temp 84 & viz 8 - 10 feet. Fish are slowly coming back. Saw sheepshead, snapper, grunts, & 5 snooks.
 
Friday, Blind Pass park.
in 10am outgoing tide.
Vis about 10', some red tide.
Very few fish.
Long swim out to max depth of 23'

Tide falling
Wind calm
Surf flat
No red tide
No respiratory distress
Live fish only- saw a nice puffer and schools of bait size fish with yellow tails
Only a couple small teeth but I’m new to this... and freedives limited to about 45 seconds (solo)
It was beautiful and fun! Now who wants to Scuba dive it with me?
