Temps:
Surface to 27' - 70*

Outside temperature 80*

Vis - 50'+

Note; low flow rate (the drought condition) is causing Science Diving to execute Level 1 low impact work to keep some amount of visibility available to the glass bottom boat tour schedule.

Lagoon 2:
Got there early enough to do a dive before the basic classes arrived.
Water temp 74F, mid 60s below thermocline @ ~20'.
Visibility 5' at best, max depth a mere 23'. After classes started vis dropped to 2-3'.

Heavy rains last week killed the vis, give it a couple of weeks and it should be better.

Location - Lake Belton (old scuba park in Morgan's Point)
Water Temp - Surface was 68 deg. At depth (38 ft) was 64 deg.
Viability - 3 to 5 ft.
Comments - Ok, it ain't Travis but actually I was pleasantly suprised. Made 2 solo dives. Entry is from an old boat ramp not used anymore. The ramp leads to another flat area at 20' (most probably a turn around spot for launching). There's a set of concrete stairs with railings leading off the edge. There's piles of tires strapped together (a few fish here). Remnants of an old dive paltform are at 25'. Around the bend there is a pretty neat wall dive with a couple of decent size grottoes. Saw a few catfish and carp hanging around there. Wore a 5 mill without a hood and was very comfortable. I think this spot has potential with some work. I will be speaking with the dive shop in Temple to see if they would be interested. I would like to be part of reviving this site. Besides, it's 15 minutes from my house.

Additional Notes: This is at the dead end of the street (Morgan's Point Blvd.). Excellent parking under large oaks. There is a playground, covered picnic tables, tennis court and public swimming pool all right there. This could really be a really great spot.

Just a friendly reminder, this thread is for condition reports only. Please discuss conditions out in the TSD forum.

Date: 5/3/2009
Location: Windy Point Private (Barstows)
Lake Condition: Glass, very little wave action.
Surface Temp: 70*f
Surface - 35' Temp: 68*f
35' - 85' Temp: 65*f
85' - 135' Temp: 59*f

The shallow thermocline is forming up nicely and is sitting at 35' - 40', the temp deep is still more of a slow change than a sharp thermocline. Viz between surface and 100' was in the 10'-15' range but dropped to inches below 100' and down to 135'.

Night dive

Good visibility with very little floating debris from 52' to the surface; a little green.
Visibility drops from 52' to 89' down to white cloudy. Still, could see rope and objects like trees when upon them clearly, but no distance at all.

Sunday May 10th

Water Temp. 79

Vis 8 to 10 feet down to 30ft depth

Dove from dock by smaller pavilion on north side. Stayed above 30ft and cruised along the shoreline. Lots of vegetation above 18 ft. Saw all sorts of fish from schools of fingerling bass to groups of large perch guarding their individual nests. Also, large 4 to 5 lb bass circling their small fry. Saw several crawdads at the entrance to their burrows and even a lone catfish attempting to hide under a fallen tree.
