Just found out I made the dive con exam. This program was harder than I thought it would be but well worth the effort. I wish my LDS got this in depth with all the classes they give. A lot of people said to take the course only if I was intrested in teaching but the information has improved my skills and knowledge better than all the previous courses.

Congratulations!

Very nice.

What will you do with your professional Cert?

What are you going to do next?

Will one of you experts tell me, a dorkie beginner, what the 'dive con' class is and how does it make you a 'pro'? I might want to take it too.

I'd be curious too. First thing I thought of was a con man. :eyebrow:

Divecon is a pro rating from SSI...I believe it's similar to being a divemaster and assistant instructor at the same time. The first step on the "pro" ladder to becoming an instructor with SSI.

I'm sure some SSI instructors and Cons will chime in :coffee:

Cheers.

Yes, Johnny you are correct. A DiveCon stands for "Dive Control Specialist".

SSI DiveCon (Dive Control Specialist)

SSI Dive Control Specialist is the initial dive leadership level. It is considered by those in the industry as the ‘fun’ leadership rating. As a DiveCon, you can do more than any other entry-level dive leader. You can do more because you receive both master diver and assistant instructor training.

As a DiveCon you can:

work on dive boats, at resorts, and take groups diving
lead dive trips and tours
assist SSI Instructors in the pool and open water
teach skills in the pool under the direct supervision of an SSI Instructor
teach SSI scuba skills update programs
teach selected SSI Specialty courses
teach the SSI Snorkeling program
teach selected First Aid and CPR programs
teach Scuba Rangers (after completing the Scuba Rangers Instructor training)

going to help out with some open waters, practice some skills, and enjoy hanging out at the shop more. I will look at the instructor side later. At our LDS dive cons run the boat do the fun stuff and handle setting up platforms and nav courses. I will enjoy this for a while.
