That's a good thing, those things are annoying as hell! Develop good buddy skills and you shouldn't have a need for a Dive Alert device.

There must be something wrong with the unit itself, I have the same one and mine works just fine underwater. And I will have to agree with Mr. Rox's point...it can be very annoying when abused, especially out of the water. All i do when I need to get attention is just touch it real quick and give just a short "toot", just enough to get attention.

I haven't used it underwater for years though - I wish I had bought the surface only version instead.
