I dive a Transpac with travel wing. While spending some quality time with my BC, I started to wonder why I need the cummerbund and backpad. Does anyone prefer diving without them? Any problems?

Background:
I dive locally with a 7 mm wetsuit and use a polyolefin jumper in the tropics.
I dive single AL 80s cause they da bomb.
My shore dives require considerable walking/hiking/falling

Please no sollicitus DIRicus :dork2:

There's no problem removing both the cummerbund and backpad. However the unit was designed the way it is for those who have to lug their gear long distances over land or through the dry sections of caves. It's very quick & simple to remove & replace both. So you could strip it down for boat dives & if you find it too uncomfortable for your difficult shore dives just replace them when required.

PS. Forgot to mention; removing the cummerbund and backpad will also remove about 2lb of positive buoyancy which means another 2lb can be removed from your weights.

...another 2lb can be removed from your weights.

Well thats a plus, er I mean a minus.

I guess I will try it out this weekend, thanks Kern.
