One of my Pro Thermo modular valves had an accident today. The outlet threads were beaten up a bit. I needed the tank for a partner so I "helped" a insert in for a yoke reg. Is there a thread chaser/or bottom tap that can be used to clean up the threads? Or better to cut my loses and get a new valve?

better to get a new valve. Brass is very soft, with how cheap they are, I would just get a new one. The DGX valves are like $25, you'll spend at least that much on a tap

I thought I might save my Thermo because I have found them much easier to work on. I've had trouble getting out the bonnet gasket on the two DGX valves that I have. Anybody else have a similar experience?

Are the treads damaged or are just realizing the amount of salt deposits that are in there? If so vinegar with a toothbrush and a good rinse can work winders.

Otherwise, I agree with cutting your losses and just buying a new Thermo Pro.

No salt, just fresh water. Saw the damage as it happened. Cut my loses : (

How much help did you need to give to the yoke plug? If not that much I might be tempted to run a tap into the valve. I'd take the valve down to a machine shop along with 6 pack of beer. (5/8" x 14 TPI BSP, 55 degree "Whitworth" thread form). Otherwise as others have said just replace it.

FWIW one of the advantages of the 5 thread DIN valves is that they are less prone to being damaged as the 7 thread DIN valves. That said with either I keep SS DIN plugs in the valves all the time. Which is great until one turns a valve and forgets a 1" wrench to loosen the plug.
