I do not trust the press-on dust cap which came with my DiveRite RG2500ICE to create a seal for post-dive soaking. Can anyone recommend a watertight threaded DIN reg cap?

I see XSSCUBA makes an aluminum one--looks nice, about $13 at LP, s'posed to be waterproof but maybe overkill since the threads on my reg are plastic. There is also a Dive Rite plastic threaded cap which is much cheaper but I am not sure if it waterproof or just "moisture" proof.

Or maybe someone has a Home Depot trick?

TIA!

Because I rent tanks it isn't always possible to do it that way, unfortunately.

Try Scuba.com for delrin. They are frequently out of stock, but should be waterproof.

Ah, thanks... yes, it specifies waterproof. Thanks!

I now only wash my regs when they're attached to a tank and pressurized. If I didn't have a tank available, I'd keep the first stage higher than the seconds, and only submerge the second stages. A wipe down of the first stage with a damp cloth would be the only water I'd put on it. Not sure I trust those reg caps.

Which threads on your reg are plastic?

I use the press on caps. they seal fine - otherwise they wouldn't stay on.

Push on don't seal well. Trashed a Poseidon that way. Last washing and rinsing sat to long. Now use the screw on.

We dive DIN and always clean up while pressurized. Positive pressure is the ONLY sure bet.

If you need to use a cap make sure it has a face that will mate with the DIN O-ring. It's probably best to have the regulator inlet pointed down when removing the cap in case the threads are loaded with water.
