Basically, what is the main difference between Scuba and Paintball compressors?

Is it only filtration, isn't it?

Possibly the maintenance program.

A paint ball user could settle for a high end pressure too low to be commercially viable for scuba as well

Paintballers may opt to use "dirty" compressors with a simple filtration set and non approved types of oil in the pumps. They cart their compressors onto fields and this has resulted in some special wheeled designs using engines and surplus military pumps mounted on dolleys. Even if their requirements are not as stringent as for breathing air they often end up with machines originally intended for breathing air and leave out the filter cartridge. They do not use remote intakes. As to oils for the dive compressor, they will use whatever branded oil the paintball shop is selling, usually a diester. They seem to prefer 4500 psi capability since paintball markers are refilled from VHP/HPA tanks. Lastly, there are special fittings for the fill whips or transfer whips.

For all the paintball compressors that we have set up, the differences are:
  1. Set up for 4500 psi working pressure
  2. Use only drier in the filter cartridge and no CO scrubber or AC
  3. Use 751 oil instead of 455
  4. Install PB filler instead of Scuba filler
That is pretty much it!

That is it, so the conversion would be relatively easy. Thanks for the good info

Thanks Ray as usual.
