Difference between LP and HP tanks

So what kind of tensile strength could I expect from some Worthington X8-series tanks? (119s? )

The exemption question is a good one, maybe Lee from Sea Pearls can answer that for us, if he sees this thread.

As far as I know, it is supposed to be possible for an end-user of the tank to file an extension to the exemption.

However, what is possible in theory may not really be practical!

Last I heard, PST had renewed the exemptions, and has now been resurrected (in some form), so hopefully they will continue to renew.

I spoke with our engineers today and found that DOT 3AA cylinders have a typical tensile strength of 105,000-120,000 psi and Worthington's tensile strength on our X-Series (E-14157) is 135,000-155,000 psi with nominal at 145,000 psi which they tell me they hit "pretty well on the money" every time.

This demonstrates that a high pressure E cylinders is at least 30% higher tensile than 3AA cylinders.

Please pass this information on and do everything you can to stop the rumor that HP and LP cylinders are the same except for the markings.

Is this so? This is the first that I have heard of it, other than the extention until (IIRC) August of 2007. I'm considering the purchase of a pair of 3442psi PST's, but am concerned that they will be scrap later this year.

I cannot guarantee it is so. There was much (heated) discussion on the topic on thedecostop, with arguments in all directions.

So far none of the stores around here seem to care, and there are a LOT of PST tanks, so I doubt stores are just going to stop filling a significant portion of tanks...

Rest assured that E9791 was transferred to the NEW PST, llc and has a use permit. They are still legal.
