I was thinking about going up either tomorrow or Monday but was hoping for an actual "I was there" report. I called CAD and they said it was pretty stirred up. Getting up to Cape Ann makes it a full day deal so I'd like to know what to expect before deciding:) Thanks!

Hmmm... yeah, 20 knot winds with gusts to 30 knots, 8-12 foot seas...

Oh, and its cold... and rainy... and windy...

Nice day for diving!!!

I am gonna try to get in tomorrow, but its not goin to be pretty. This kind of weather, you really need to WANT to get into the water...

Sort of like a DESIRE, or a NEED!!!!

I need the ocean... I desire it... I am getting wet tomorrow, one way or another... LOL.

Did the Poling this afternoon, it was very rough. Shore diving would have been out of the question for me. The weather is supposed ti imporove tommorow though.

Did.....anyone.....go....diving.....today? :D I'm not looking to see if people think I'm crazy or to speculate on what the conditions might be like tomorrow. I wanted to know what it was like today:) I already know I'm nuts and yes, I NEED to go diving;)

P.S. Thanks MASS-Diver for answering my question

I thought it would be ok cuz there was no wind around boston, but when I got up to Cape Ann the wind was kicking. We cruised around looking for a good spot and chose Pebble beach. The rest of the sites had big waves ... even back beach was choppy.

Not a good day for me!

First dive 6:00am
water temp: 47deg f
waves progressivly got worse with decreasing vis. although was good at first 20'
Got no bugs
My buddy let go of the flag and by the time we surfaced the flag was so far (offshore) away we decided not to risk chasing it. Embarassing phone call to report a lost flag.

Second Dive
After buying a new flag we tried again
vis was definetly decreased 15'

If I were you I would not go until things calm down;-0

I am interested in hearing more about the Cape Ann. How deep is she? When did she sink? What kind of wildlife is living on her hull.

I am a Pacific Northwest diver and encouraged to hear that Northeast divers are like us...not scared off by a little wind, rain or current.

Thanks,

Amy

Hi Amy,

Cape Ann is not a wreck. It's a cape where there are a lot of great dive sites. Here's a website with a map of Cape Ann and where some good wreck and shore dives are located:

http://www.capeanndivers.com/findadivesite.htm

You'll see some names of wreck sites on this map. If you have questions about any of these wrecks, feel free to ask. There are pleny of people on this board that can tell you all sorts of things about them.

Hey everyone on the North shore. Im new to this site and thought id post. Went diving at follycove on 5/28. water temp was 52 they say. Got to the site dropped my stuff drove to an approved parking spot then walked back. set up my gear and started to don my wet suits yes two suits, 1 is a 1mm skin which helps alot. Problem is when i looked at the bottom of my bag my hood was missing. I drove too far to not get wet so i tried. In the water my body was fine but my head was like someone drove a screwdriver into it. I tried but it became no fun so i called it a day. Ive found my hood and will try again on thursday 6/5 probably in the afternoon.
